My Role as the School Nurse:

The school nurse role is not handing out ice. It also isn’t looking for lice or putting on a bandaid for a scrape.  This is a link from the National Association of School Nurses regarding the role of the 21st century school nurse. https://www.nasn.org/nasn/advocacy/professional-practice-documents/position-statements/ps-role

My goal is to keep our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. I work closely with our school counselor, mental health specialist, title 1 coordinator, the principal, and teachers to identify any health concerns, and provide resources to assist parents to access health care when needed.

School Screenings:

State guidelines require that we do a vision screening on students in grades PK, K, 1, 3, and 5 at the elementary level. If your child does not pass the vision screening at school, I will notify you by mail. If you cannot afford to get your child’s vision screened by an eye care professional, please notify me. There are resources in the community to get a free vision screening and glasses if you qualify financially.

Local Health Resources:

I have attached a link for the Weber-Morgan Area General Resource List to help with low cost health clinics, and other assistance programs.
