Notes from the School Nurse
Welcome back!! I hope that you have had a wonderful, relaxing summer, and that you are starting the school year rested, and ready to do your best.
I will hold a vision screening for 1st-6th grade students on Friday, September 19th with the help of PTA volunteers. Please let me know in writing if you do not want your child to have their vision screened.
In cooperation with the Weber/Morgan Health Department, North Park students, staff and community members will have the opportunity to get the annual flu shot at school on Thursday, October 30th. The clinic will start at 1:30 pm and finish when we have completed vaccinating all those who are interested. They will also offer Tdap, which is the tetanus booster that contains the pertussis (whooping cough) component to 6th grade students, and anyone over the age of 11 who has not been vaccinated in the past 7-10 years. Whooping cough can be deadly for children too young to be vaccinated, so I would encourage all adults to be vaccinated in order to protect the small children around you. Watch for permission slips to come home in October.
Tdap is a required vaccine for 7th grade entry. Starting next fall, a 2nd Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine will also be required for kindergarten and 7th grade entry. Please review your child’s immunization record, and talk with your health care provider about the vaccines your 6th grade student needs.
